As of today our little Max is a month old. I know it’s cliché to say I can’t
believe that he’s already a month old, but for me I can’t believe that I’ve kept
this tiny human alive for that long!
I’m only slightly kidding.
Over the past month I’ve gathered a few thoughts about being
a new mom and getting to raise Max:
As a new mom I’ve become quite good at three things: doing
things with one hand (this morning I made and ate breakfast with one hand, and
put dinner in the crockpot), having my hair in some form of top knot 24 hours a
day (Max loves his hands and loves to grab my hair, especially while he’s
eating, which is hard enough without him pulling out all my hair!), and falling
asleep with the loudest white noise playing in our bedroom.
As a new mom I’m amazed at how strong tiny humans are. I find myself having to use some muscle
to get his arms into a swaddle!
As a new mom I’m pretty paranoid about every noise that he
makes, especially while he’s sleeping.
This was definitely the case when we were in the hospital, but I’m
getting a little better. I think
that giving birth and having a tiny human all to yourself to take care of and
keep safe would make anyone paranoid!
As a new mom I think that every little noise that he makes
is the cutest thing ever, and the cutest thing that any baby has done,
ever. Max gives us huge grins, and
I swear that he laughs too. He
also does this audible sigh that makes me laugh every time.
As a new mom I’m learning patience. Lots of it. I’m sure all
new moms can agree.
As a new mom I see now see my own mom as the greatest super
hero who ever lived. I was so
grateful that my mom was able to stay with us for a week after Max was born,
and I’m not kidding when I say that I bawled just thinking about her leaving
us. Now that I have a child of my own, I can only slightly comprehend the
sacrifices that my own mom has made ever since my oldest brother was born.
